Darlene Marie Fisk

- January 9, 2019

Darlene Marie Fisk, 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Clarkson Mountain View Healthcare Facility in Rapid City.

Darlene was born May 5, 1928 in Lily, SD to Cecil and Inga Fisk.  She attended Lily schools, graduating in 1946.  After graduation she attended business school in Minneapolis where she earned her an associate’s degree in Business in 1949.  She then moved to San Francisco and Los Angeles, CA.  Darleen worked for SEMPRE Energy for over 25 years, ten years as the Executive Secretary to the Board Chairman up to the time of her retirement.  Much of Darlene's spare and vacation time was spent attending plays, the opera, writing music, and giving piano and Hawaiian dance lessons.  She was also intrigued by other cultures and traveled to Hawaii, Japan, China, and the Philippines.  In 1968 she bought a brand new 1968 Chevelle which was the only car she ever owned and only for a few years because she did not like driving in the big city.  She preferred the bus or air travel.

At retirement, Darlene returned to Canton, SD where she enjoyed her retirement reading, playing her piano, exercising, and walking many miles.  In 2010 Darlene moved to Rapid City where she remained in the care of her nephew, Dave and his wife, Joan, the Victorian Assisted Living, and finally at Clarkson Healthcare Facility where she had the best care and comfort.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil E. and Inga E. (Farness) Fisk; brothers, Bud, Kermit, Edwin, Miron, Courtney, and Claire; sisters, Vava, Delores, and Phyllis.

Thankful for Darlene's life and love are her surviving sister-in-law, Winnie Fisk, Watertown, SD; and her many nieces and nephews.

Darlene's family is grateful for the legacy she has passed along to them and to so many others...a love of learning, the power of education, her joy of music, the excitement of travel, an interest in other cultures and countries, and the importance of family, friends, and her faith.

Arrangements are under the care of Black Hills Funeral Home of Sturgis, SD.  Darlene will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery in Clark, SD at a later date.

Family and friends may sign her online guestbook and leave written condolences for the family at blackhillsfuneralhome.com.
