David A. Iverson

David A. Iverson

David A. Iverson

- April 19, 2019

David A. Iverson was born July 26, 1938, in Grand Meadow, MN, to Adolf and Mabel (Skaren) Iverson.  David graduated from Grand Meadow High School.  On December 31, 1960, David was united in marriage to Judith G. Williams in Rochester, MN.

David began Iverson Construction in July of 1971.  He worked hard and, as his tenacity and efforts paid off, he began to add more and more to the business.  Dave loved to spend his time on his craft no matter what the size.  Whether it was remodeling a home or constructing a commercial building, he wanted it to be built right and to last as long as possible.  As a result, his wife, Judy, became more involved in running the business with him, and together they focused not only on Iverson Construction, but also on what would benefit Sturgis.  They helped with various community projects, such as improving the football field, city parks, and various charities or individuals around town.  Sons, Richard and Randy, were needed to help expand the business and contribute their ideas.  It was a sad time when the unexpected death of Richard occurred, and then Judy.

When not at work, David loved to spend his time at Grace Lutheran Church.  He developed close relationships with some of his fellow parishioners - playing cards, traveling, fishing trips, or flipping pancakes during the motorcycle rally.  Mixed in with that were his daily stops at some of his favorite places, including Weimer’s bakery or McDonald’s, or picking up his grandchildren at school.  Riding along side was his constant companion and beloved dog, Bridget.

David, age 80, of Sturgis, SD, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at Sturgis Regional Senior Care in Sturgis, SD.

David is survived by his son, Randy (Cindy) Iverson of Sturgis; daughter-in-law, Tammy Iverson of Sturgis; grandchildren, Jami Bistodeau and Megan Iverson of Rapid City, Alexis Iverson of Spearfish, and David Iverson of Sturgis; great-grandchildren, Kaden, Kyson, and Natalie Bistodeau of Rapid City; siblings, Marcella (Bob) Wiese of St. Cloud, MN, Ronnie (Karen) Iverson of Santa Maria, CA, and Audrey (Fritz) Olson of Kassen, MN; sister-in-law, Shirley Iverson of Spring Valley, MN; brother-in-law, Marshall (Sharon) Williams of Sturgis; sister-in-law, Glenice Williams of Surprise, AZ;  and numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and co-workers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Mabel; wife, Judith Iverson; son, Richard D. Iverson; brothers, Kenneth and Vernon; sisters, Kathryn Edgar, Alice Shaw, and Dorothy Fisk; and brother-in-law, Nelson E. “Gurse” Williams.

David will be fondly remembered as a very hard-working man who loved his family, church, and community and will be missed by many.  He has now joined the other master carpenter in Heaven.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Grace Lutheran Church.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2019, at Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis with Pastor Kris Garlick officiating.  Inurnment will follow at Bear Butte Cemetery.
