Deadwood February Gaming Numbers Give Up January Gains

News Staff - March 23, 2018

DEADWOOD, S.D. - According to statistics released yesterday by the South Dakota Commission on Gaming, the February 2018 gaming handle showed a decrease of 6.72 percent, giving up January’s gains, with slot machine handle decreasing by 6.29 percent when compared to February 2017.

The table game handle was down as well at 12.43 percent, when compared to 2017’s table game numbers. Deadwood gaming operators rewarded players with $1,299,917.36 in "free-play" for the month of February, leaving taxable adjusted gross revenues of $6,684,727.76 for February 2018.

"Deadwood gaming operators still remain optimistic for 2018, despite February’s numbers backslide,” said Mike Rodman, executive director of the Deadwood Gaming Association. "With the increase in hotel occupancy for February, we are hopeful February’s gaming numbers are a temporary setback to a year of positive growth for the industry.”

There will be a series of community visioning meetings next week on the City of Deadwood’s Comprehensive Plan at the Days of 76 Museum.
