Deanna (Kolb) Kensrud, 78, formerly of Fargo ND, passed away on June 14th, 2019 in Springfield, VA.

She was the youngest of nine children born to Rudolf and Amelia (Hintz) Kolb on June 26th, 1940 in Bison SD. Deanna attended high school at Northwestern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge, SD, graduating in 1958. After graduation, she moved to Fargo ND and attended Dakota Business College. It was there where she met, and later married Rodney Kensrud of Portland ND on June 23rd, 1962 in Bison SD.

At the age of 19, Deanna began working at the Register of Deeds office, now known as the Cass County Recorder’s Office in Fargo. In 1974, she won the election to become the Cass County Recorder. Deanna served in this position for 32 years until her retirement in 2007. She was well known for her meticulous attention to detail, strong sense of customer service, and solid dedication to her work. Deanna received the Excellence in County Government Award in the category of Hall of Honor from the North Dakota Association of Counties in 2008. Over the 47 years in the County Recorder’s Office, Deanna had guided Cass County through a vast amount of change. Outside of her professional life, Deanna enjoyed golfing, alpine skiing, playing the piano, dancing, and attending her children’s various events. She and her husband Rod traveled back to South Dakota many times to visit with family and they both enjoyed other adventures in locations such as Germany, Hawaii, and Alaska.

Deanna is survived by one daughter, Nadine (Mark) Murphy of Galveston TX; one son, Ryan (Kimberly) Kensrud of Alexandria VA; three grandchildren, Mason Murphy of Ladson SC, Lawson Murphy of Galveston TX, and Annika Kensrud of Alexandria VA, three sisters-in-law, Darlene Kolb of Pierre SD, Betty Kolb of Sturgis SD, and Karen Kensrud of Bloomington MN; one brother-in-law, Darrel Kensrud of Bloomington MN.

Deanna was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney; parents, Rudolf and Amelia Kolb; one sister, Lillian (Kolb) Simon; seven brothers, Raymond, Gilbert, Ernest, Vernon, Arnold, Eldred, and Delbert; four brothers-in-law, and six sisters-in-law.

Visitation for Deanna will be 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. MT on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at the Prince of Peace Chapel of the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, SD. A prayer service will follow at 6:30 p.m. with Pastor Florence Hoff, officiating. Private family burial will take place at the Date Cemetery, rural Bison, SD.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Date Cemetary. A special thanks to the staff at Aarondale Retirement Community for their never ending care and devotion to Deanna.
