Dozen new deaths, active cases and hospitalizations down in Friday COVID-19 report

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota recorded another dozen COVID-19 related deaths Friday as state health officials reported the state’s number of fatalities rose to 1,556.

The new deaths were seven men and five women with three in the 60-69 age range, four in the 70-79 age range and five in the 80 and older age range. Of the deaths, 2 were reported in Pennington County and one was listed in Lawrence County.

New COVID-19 cases Friday totaled 448 with 125 them listed as probable.

Active cases of the virus fell 834 Friday to 5,241 and the number of people hospitalized decreased by 17 to 247.

Across the Black Hills area, Pennington County reported 45 new cases with 8 of them listed as probable. The total number of cases in Pennington County rises to 11,718 with active cases down to 688.

Meade County reported 11 new cases, with one of them listed as probable. Lawrence County added 9 new cases. Active cases in both counties are down Friday to 116 in Meade and 103 in Lawrence.

Other new cases across the Black Hills area included 3 each in Butte, Custer and Oglala Lakota and one new cases in Fall River County.

Across all West River counties, there were 124 new cases with 44 of them listed as probable.

There were 1,558 new persons tested reported on Friday. Friday’s new person tested positivity rate is 28%.
