Entertaining ranch cowboy events set for Black Hills Stock Show

F.Ganje - January 22, 2020

RAPID CITY, SD – Rough stock events are many and varied during the Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo at the Kjerstad Event Center on the Central States Fairgrounds. Beginning with the new Black Hills Wild Bronc Ride on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 6pm, the $5,000 in prize money is sure to attract colorful cowboys in a long-go that will feature 12 wild and western bronc riders dressed in costume.

“It’s a little bit of ranching mixed with comedy,” says John Kaiser, Black Hills Stock Show Operations Manager.  “When there’s money on the line just for dressing up, you’ll see some real creativity.”

A short-go will bring back the top four to determine the winners. Entertainment wraps up the evening with Brandon Jones, a predominately a country/rock cover band with their own originals sprinkled in.

One of the Black Hills Stock Show's most popular events is the Ranch Rodeo set for Tuesday, Feb. 4.  Over $21,000 worth of cash and prizes are awarded to teams from the five-state region competing for top honors. Teams are comprised of four people, who will compete in three preliminary events for the chance to make the finals Tuesday night at 7:30 pm.

The Broncs for Breakfast event Wednesday, Feb. 5 will feature 32 Ranch Bronc Riders "Riding as Ride Can Be" for 8 seconds. The Ranch Bronc Ride is different from the rodeo saddle bronc riding, as all contestants must ride in a stock saddle.

The event will start at 8am. with a biscuits and gravy breakfast, calcutta at 9am and the bronc riding to start at 10am. The long-go will include 32 riders with the top eight advancing to the short-go. A total of $6,000 is up for grabs on Burch Rodeo stock.

The bronc riding is open to everyone to compete and is sanctioned with the Western States Ranch Rodeo Association. WSRRA members will be eligible for National Finals qualifying points.
