HOT SPRINGS, S.D. – The Hot Springs Police Department has shared via Facebook that residents need to be extremely careful with fireworks.
After three separate fires were sparked Friday night, police put a temporary ban on fireworks. In an update on the department’s Facebook page Saturday, officials lifted the ban, but highly recommended no discharging of fireworks.
The post read:
“Fireworks are allowed today but we ask common sense to be used. Its dry out and any airborne fireworks can start another fire.
The fire danger today is Moderate. Per Emergency Management fireworks will be permitted but are highly NOT RECOMMENDED! Last night was a reminder just how dangerous they can be if not used with extreme caution. We do not want a repeat of last night’s incidents! So if you choose to use fireworks this is your last reminder that you will be held responsible for your actions if a fire is started. So let’s let our first responders stay with their families tonight. Please be safe, be smart, and have a Happy 4th of July.”
In the Friday night post, police reported local agencies battling fires at Heartland Mobile Home Court and at the east side of Angostura south of Pirates.
