Fire in rural Custer destroys garage


News Staff - December 3, 2018

CUSTER, S.D. - The Custer Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of smoke and fire visible in a detached garage, threatening a residential structure at 12350 MOSS ROCK LN, rural Custer South Dakota.

First arriving Firefighters found a fire burning with a heavy smoke and fire condition, in the interior of a detached garage, with flames extending to the exterior of the structure, immediately threatening an occupied residence.

Fire fighters immediately struck a second alarm including requesting mutual aid assistance from the Hill City Volunteer Fire Department and the Battle Creek Fire District.

The Fire did spread to the adjacent residential structure before being brought under control.

Firefighters did stop the flames from damaging nearby infrastructure and other improvements.

The residential structure received light to moderate damage.  The detached garage suffered extensive damage

Temperatures recorded at the Incident ranged from 5 to 7 degrees Fahrenheit.

No injuries to Firefighters, civilians or domestic animals were reported.  Occupants of the residence will be staying with neighbors.

Custer County Communications, Custer Volunteer Fire department, Custer county Sheriff’s office, Custer County Ambulance Service, Custer County Emergency Management agency, Argyle volunteer Fire Department, Pringle Volunteer Fire Department, Pennington County 911, the Hill city volunteer Fire department, Battle Creek Fire District, and Black hills energy.
