Florence Augusta Louise Euerle

- February 11, 2019

Florence Augusta Louise (Rosenow) Euerle was born April 16, 1929, in Harvey Township, Meeker County, MN, on the family farm.  Her parents, William H. Rosenow and Emilie H. (Marquardt) Rosenow, saw the need to baptize her quickly so the elderly pastor was called.  Because the pastor was too ill to finish, Florence’s grandmother completed the baptism.  Florence attended the country school down the road and then graduated from Litchfield High School at the age of 16.

Florence was married to Edward W. Euerle on May 1, 1948, and they spent 56 ½ years together.  They continued to live on the same farm she was born on and raised their family there.  One of her projects every year was a huge garden where the family found many opportunities to bond.  Florence held many other jobs during her lifetime, including bookkeeper, office assistant, and bank teller.  Later in her life, she busied herself with volunteer efforts.  Not being much of a TV watcher, she’d often sit by Ed and crochet.  She supplied all of the family with numerous afghans, one of which she was working on when she passed.  Every grandchild was welcomed into this world with a crocheted blanket and/or sweater.  These same kids were given a hand-quilted bedspread with their name appliqued down the middle when they graduated to their first bed and another hand-quilted bedspread when they married.  Florence and Ed loved to travel, golf, fish, and play cards.  Florence was even adventurous enough to climb on one of Carol’s horses a time or two.

In 1994, Florence and Ed sold the family farm and started to travel full time, spending summers in Minnesota near one daughter, winters in Texas near their son, and spring and fall near their other daughter in South Dakota.  They eventually settled in Rapid City, SD, in 1998, and then moved to Belle Fourche, SD, in 2002, where they lived until Ed passed in 2004.  Florence then moved to Sturgis, SD, spending her last three years at Heritage Acres.

Florence, 89, went home to her Lord on February 7, 2019, at the Sturgis Regional Senior Care after a short battle with cancer.

She is survived by three children and their spouses, Beverly and Dana Sheldon, Walker, MN, Paul and Lynn Euerle, Elk River, MN, and Carol and Doug Pavel, Whitewood, SD; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Wolff, San Diego, CA; 5 grandchildren, Joshua (Ronni) Euerle, Jacob (Katie) Euerle, Josiah (Roanne) Euerle, Andrew (Jennifer) Euerle, and Katie Pavel; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Ed, her parents, two brothers, and one grandchild, Brian Pavel, preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the ministry efforts at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis, SD.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis with Pastor Nick Haasch officiating.  Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
