Football Championships held in Class 11A, 9A and 9AA Thursday

VERMILLION, S.D. - Canistota/Freeman defeated Howard 46-14 in the Class 9A championship game on Thursday, winning their first state football title as a co-op.

This is the first state football championship for the Canistota/Freeman co-op. For Freeman, they have five previous state titles, while Canistota had four.

Quarterback Trey Ortman won the Joe Robbie MVP award as well as the Outstanding Back and Jared Tieszen won the oustanding lineman.

In the Class 9AA Championship, Bon Homme defeated Kimball/White Lake 35-20 on Thursday afternoon in Vermillion to win the state football championship. This is the first state title for the Cavaliers football program since 1995.

Bon Homme erased a 20-0 deficit in the first quarter to come back and win.

Joey Slama won the MVP award as well as the Outstanding Back.

And, in the Class 11 A Championship, the Tea Area Titans won their first ever state football championship on Thursday night with a 39-7 victory over Dell Rapids.

Tea jumped out to a 20-0 lead and never looked back.

Tea's Wyatt VanTol won the Joe Robbie MVP Award, Carter Slykhuis won the Outstanding Back and Kaleb Joffer won the Outstanding Lineman.
