Gladys Elaine Simons was born December 20, 1938, in Sturgis, SD, to Sam E. and Ada B. (Burditt) Simons.  She was raised on the family farm/ranch between Marcus and Plainview.  Gladys went to the Barada School, grades 1-8, where she was a good student, advancing two grades in one year. While at Sturgis High School, she lived with her beloved grandmother, Clara Ensor. She was active in band, choral music, and athletics. She graduated with honors in 1956. After high school, she worked for Black Hills Power in Rapid City.

Gladys married her high school dance partner Guy Edwards, Jr. on September 1957. They were joined at the hip for 61 years. Her husband and three children were a blessing to her. When her children started school, Gladys worked in the family business, Edwards Total Service. She worked at, and later retired from, the Sturgis office of Montana Dakota Utilities. She then became a licensed realtor in the family business Century 21 Real Estate. While at the Sturgis Chamber of Commerce, she was recognized for her wide-ranging knowledge of the town and the residents. Gladys completed her work career at age 78 as office manager of Century 21.

Gladys Elaine Edwards 79, of Sturgis, went to her eternal home November 4, 2018, after a valiant battle with cancer.

Gladys is survived by her husband, Guy Edwards, Jr.; daughter, Patricia (Craig) Henderson, and their three children, Jacob (Summer Hulse) Henderson, Emily (Brian) Webb; great-grandsons, Weston and Bennet Webb, and Marcus Henderson; daughter, Guyla (Mit) Ness, and their daughter, Katie Ness; son, Richard Edwards and his children: Guyla Edwards (Darren LaParr), great-grandson, Tyr LaParr, and Kim Edwards, Jewel Rodriguez and Dean (Theresa) Plaggemeyer and their families. She is also survived by her siblings, Freda Wilson, Clara Beth Peterson, Kay Ingalls, and Walter Simons (Barb); as well as sister-in-law’s, Rosalie Simons, Joyce Simons, Flora Grimsbo, and Helen (Jim) Felker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, William, Vern, and Wayne.

Visitation will be at Kinkade’s Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, November 7, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
Funeral services will be Thursday, November 8, at 1:00 P.M at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev Denzel Nonhof officiating. Inurnment at a later date

A memorial has been established to the Sturgis Senior Citizen Center.
