Glenn Named Hardrocker Men's Basketball Head Coach

Release from South Dakota School of Mines Athletics - October 27, 2018

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- South Dakota School of Mines Athletics Director Joel Lueken announced today that Eric Glenn has been named the Hardrocker men's basketball head coach for the 2018-19 season. Glenn takes over the head coaching position from Jason Henry.

"Coach Glenn is one of the longest tenured coaches on staff in the Hardrocker Athletic Department, serving 13 years in the men's basketball program," Lueken said. "With his knowledge of basketball and background in Hardrocker Athletics, I am confident he will do an outstanding job with the team and with our scholar-athletes."

Glenn has been the assistant coach of the Hardrocker men's program for the past 13 years. He's came in when the Hardrockers competed at the NAIA level and continued through the transition to NCAA Div. II and has been in the program since joining the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. He is a native of Riverton, Wyo., but spent much of his childhood years in Hot Springs where his father was the head football coach.

Glenn played football and basketball for two years at Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska, where he was a back-up quarterback and point guard. He then finished his final two years with the Eagle basketball program. He graduated from Chadron State with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education (1993).

After graduation, he stayed on as an assistant for then head coach, Bob Wood, where he helped the Eagles to their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference league championship. As an assistant at Chadron State he earned a master of arts degree in Sports and Recreation Management.

In 1995, Glenn went to the University of Wyoming where he was the third assistant on Joby Wright's basketball staff. After a two-year stint at Wyoming, he moved on to Scottsbluff High School where he was the assistant coach on the Bearcats District B-6 championship team that qualified for the Nebraska State Tournament. The next season he went to Missouri Valley College and was the assistant men's basketball coach for the Vikings in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

In 2000, Glenn was hired as the head coach of Missouri Valley and led the Vikings to their best conference finish in four years, hosted and won play-off tournament games two out of the three years and was nominated for conference coach of the year twice. From 2001 to 2003 he served on the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II National Tournament Committee.

In 2003 he took the opportunity to move closer to family and became an assistant at Black Hills State University under Mike Kruszynski.

Glenn has directed and worked at numerous basketball camps and clinics throughout the Midwest, which have included the University of Wyoming, Colorado State University, Chauncey Billups Basketball Camps, Creighton University, Mike Trader Basketball Camps and Montana State University.
