Governor Requests Flags At Half-Staff On Saturday To Honor Fallen Firefighter

News Staff - September 11, 2018

PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Dennis Daugaard asks that all flags in the state be flown at half-staff on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 8 a.m. until sunset, in honor of David Fischer, assistant chief of the Sturgis Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Service. Fischer died Friday, while responding to a house fire in Tilford.

“Linda and I offer our sincere condolences to the Fischer family. David’s service as a 22-year firefighter and South Dakota National Guard staff sergeant will not be forgotten,” Gov. Daugaard said.

Fischer’s funeral service will be held Saturday at the Sturgis Brown High School gymnasium. Public visitation is scheduled for Thursday at the Sturgis Community Center from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. MDT.
