Great Plains Tribal says 12 patients test positive for COVID-19

RAPID CITY, S.D. – In a Monday release, the Great Plains Tribal Chairman’s Health Board stated that 12 patients of the Oyate Health Center in Rapid City have tested positive for COVID-19.

C.E.O. of the health board, Jerilyn Church, says one of those patients is an employee at the Wal-Mart store on LaCrosse Street in Rapid City.

The Department of Health, in their Monday report, did not have any advisory or exposure warning for the business.

Church claims the positive test result was reported to the South Dakota Department of Health. She also says Rapid City Mayor Steve Allender was informed of the positive test.

Church, in the release, says Oyate Health Center tested 46 patients with COVID-19 symptoms. Of those 46, 12 tested positive. There were 7 reported on Saturday — and those 7 were indicated on the Department of Health numbers.

Late Monday evening, Church also announced four more positive COVID-19 tests. That would raise the total number of cases at the Oyate Health Center to 16.
