Health officials report 73 new COVID-19 cases, no new deaths Saturday

STURGIS, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health reported 73 new cases of COVID-19 in the Saturday report.

Of those, Pennington County reported 9 new positive tests. Pennington’s cumulative total rises to 713 with 149 active cases. That is the same amount of active cases as Friday when the number of new recoveries are factored in.

Lawrence County reported one additional case today, sending their cumulative total to 22. Lawrence now has 3 active cases with no new recoveries reported.

Butte County also reported one new case, giving them a cumulative total of 5 with 2 active cases.

Meade County and Oglala Lakota Counties had no new cases to report, but did see a handful of people recover from the virus. Meade reported 3 new people have recovered, leaving the county with 5 active cases. Oglala Lakota also had 3 new people recovered, dropping their active caseload down to 31.

Statewide, the number of active cases is down 10 to 855 as of Saturday. The number of hospitalizations increased, however, to 70 – up nine from Friday.

There were no new deaths reported today, keeping the state’s death toll at 116.
