Inaugural Preparations in Full Swing

PIERRE, S.D. - Crews are hard at work today preparing the Capitol in Pierre for the inauguration of Governor-elect Kristi Noem and other state lawmakers.

Events begin Saturday at 11 a.m. but a lot of work needs to come together before that time.

Crews were busy hoisting banners around the Capitol Complex on Thursday and volunteers were preparing the Capitol Rotunda and receiving spaces for an influx of visitors and events.

Activities kick off Saturday at 11 a.m. as State Lawmakers receive their Oath of Office in each respective chamber.

All official ceremonies are open to the public and free of charge, but convenient parking may be another matter.  Organizers say plan to arrive early and be prepared to walk a bit.

Governor elect Kristi Noem will be sworn in as the state’s 33rd Governor at noon on Saturday, along with Lt. Governor Larry Rhoden and other state constitutional officers.

The Honorable David E. Gilbertson, Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court, will administer the Oath of Office to Governor Noem.

Noem will make history as the first woman to serve as the state’s Chief Executive Officer.  Husband Bryon will officially be noted as South Dakota’s ‘First Gentleman.’

The official ceremony is coordinated with the First Family and includes personal touches of significance and meaning, particularly in the music selection and performers.

Governor Noem will offer an Inaugural Address before the close of the ceremony.  A receiving line will be open to the public from 1:30 to 3 p.m. CST at the State Capitol.
