Large hail hits Meade, Pennington County Sunday afternoon

STURGIS, S.D. – Mother Nature brought some severe weather to the Black Hills area Sunday, as hail the size of ping pong balls fell in some areas.

In Sturgis, a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued as a storm brought hail the size of half dollars. The hail fell for approximately 30 minutes and covered the ground in many areas.

Residents were reporting damage to cars, homes and trees.

Traffic along I-90 was slowed as heavy hail made traveling treacherous in the Piedmont area.

In Pennington County, hail was reported in Rapid City and 1.50-inch hail fell near the Rapid City Airport.
