Lyle Albert Donner 97, of Reeder North Dakota passed away Easter Morning April 21, 2019, in The Village at Skyline Pines in Rapid City, SD.

Lyle was born Oct. 26, 1921 the first son of Albert August Donner and Helena Alvina (Dobberpuhl) in a sod house north of Reeder ND. Lyle had one brother Lavern John born on November 17, 1922.  Lyle attended grade school at the Whetstone School and graduated from Reeder High School.  This is where he met the love of his life Jacquelyn Anne Lee.  They were married January 17, 1942 in Baker MT.  To this marriage they were blessed with 5 children.  Gary (Kathy), of Staples MN, Lynn (Linda) of Fountain Valley, CA, Bruce of Rapid City, SD and Neil (Sharon) of Forsyth, MT and Renee (Joey) Purdy of Parker CO.  Lyle and Jackie lived in Reeder for a time before they bought the Holmquist place just west of Reeder, which became their permanent home for many years.  After 54 amazing years of marriage, Jackie passed away on Nov. 29, 1996 in Hettinger ND.

After a lonely year on the farm he met the second love of his life, Nona Mae (Peg) Johnson and was remarried New Year’s Eve 1997.  Lyle and Peg shared 21 wonderful years. To this marriage   Lyle gained 4 more children.  Vern Anders, Peggy Lee Brengle, John (Marilyn) Johnson, Bill (Laura) Johnson.

Lyle served in the Navy and was a 70-year veteran of WWII. He was employed as a rural mail carrier for many years. Lyle was a jack of all trades…. a mechanic, a welder, a carpenter, a farmer (his favorite), and most of all a wonderful husband and father.   Lyle loved sports, which we have been told was good at himself.  He had a love hate relationship with the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings.  He was not a Norte Dame football fan and lost many a bet to Andy Wagner.

Lyle and Peg loved to play cards and were ready anytime for pinochle, cribbage or whatever card game you wanted to play.  Coffee was always on, and they loved it when Charlene and Rhonda showed up for a game of pinochle or when having pizza and beer with their good friend Dorothy Chase.

Lyle is survived by his wife Peg, children Gary, Lynn, Bruce, Neil, Missy, Vern, Peggy Lee, John, and Bill.  He was blessed with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.  Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Helena, his wife Jackie, his brother Bud, sister in law Arlene Flatland Donner, sister in law Halfrid Knudson, and sister in law Phyllis  (Fulwiler) Schoonover.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Reeder.

Special thanks to Charlene, Rhonda, Dorothy, Peggy, Lisa, Laura, Ray, Sherry and especially (Cuz) Debi for her love and guidance for Dad.  Also a special appreciation for the care and compassion given to Dad while living at The Village.
