Man charged in connection with brother's death enters not guilty plea

RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Rapid City man has pleaded not guilty to a lesser charge in connection with the March death of his brother.

James LaDeaux Sr. pleaded not guilty Monday to second degree murder in the stabbing death of Fredrick LaDeaux.

LaDeaux Sr. was initially charged with first degree murder and faced the death penalty. The reduction will now make him eligible for life in prison.

LaDeaux Sr. was arrested on March 18 after police were called to an alleyway in downtown Rapid City. Upon arrival, police found two men, one suffering from a stab wound, another sitting nearby. When police began to tend to the unconscious male, James LaDeaux allegedly began to wave a knife at them. James LaDeaux was tasered and taken into custody. Fredrick LaDeaux died from stab wounds.

James LaDeaux is also facing additional charges of aggravated asasault.

A status hearing has been set for June 24th.
