Man remains missing after extensive searches turn up no clues

GERING, NE – The search for a missing Gering man continues in what Gering Police Captain Jason Rogers characterizes as an active investigation.  Missing since July 6, 2019 Chance Englebert, 25, was last seen on video camera footage  in Gering.

“The evening that Chance went missing, he is on camera at a couple different locations here in Gering, walking by himself,” shares Chief Rogers.

According to Captain Rogers and other media reports, the time of his disappearance followed an argument earlier. Chance and wife Baylee and son Banks, who live in Moorcroft, WY, were visiting Baylee’s grandparents in Gering on July 6.  Following a disagreement with family members at a golf course, his wife picked him up and they drove back to her grandparents’ house.

Englebert left on foot from there and hasn’t been seen since.

“We know he was with his wife for the part of the evening,” says Captain Rogers. “It sounds like there was a disagreement. He went for walk and has not been seen since that night.”

The Gering Police Department reports that despite multiple agencies searching hundreds of miles on the ground and in the air, they have not found anything to aid their investigation as to the whereabouts of Englebert, who is originally from the Edgemont, SD area. Search efforts have included 147 people participating in ground searches, 2,400 acres searched, 18 agencies involved, Air Link logged 280 miles and the Nebraska State Patrol helicopter logged 100 miles.  According to Captain Rogers, the Gering Police Department has followed leads in Nebraska, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Kansas on reports of sightings of Englebert, but none have resulted in any further clues.

Based on Englebert’s cell phone activity the night he went missing on July 6,  volunteers have recently searched the outskirts of Scottsbluff and the Torrington, WY areas. Englebert had made a phone call to a friend at approximately 7:45pm, relating that he was walking to Torrington. A final text was sent from his phone at around 9:08pm. At some point, the phone was shut off.

Captain Rogers says they have received no information that would lead them to believe this is a criminal case.

Chance was last seen wearing a short sleeve button-up Wrangler shirt, dark blue Wrangler jeans, roper-style boots and a black and white trucker hat. Chance is 5 feet 9 inches tall, medium build and has  brown hair.

A $10,000 reward is being offered by the family for anyone who can locate the missing man. See updates on the Facebook page Find Chance Englebert
