Marsha Isabelle Hughes

Marsha Isabelle Hughes

- November 27, 2018

Marsha Isabelle Hughes was born July 6, 1945, to John Hughes and Rachel (Brown) Hughes in Sturgis, SD.  She was the 4th of 6 children.  She grew up in the Plainview area and attended grades school there.

She married David Heaton on March 12, 1966, in White Owl, SD.  To this union, three children were born:  Tracey, Charity, and Christina.  They lived a short time in the Red Owl area then moved to the Ottumwa area to work on the VanTassel ranch, then finally settled in the Sturgis area where they started the family water well drilling business.  She worked side by side on the drilling rig with her husband until 1991.  She also worked a few other jobs including waiting tables at Skelly’s truck stop and cashier at Trailside.  She never met a stranger.  She was a friend to everyone she met and always had the ability to make you smile.

She enjoyed attending dances every weekend at the local VFW, throwing darts with her daughter, Chris, at the Fireside in Sturgis, playing cribbage, and bingo.  She was a huge supporter of her kids and grandkids even when she was unable to attend their events.  She had a special talent for taking a cross stitch pattern and making the most beautiful afghans, sewing, upholstery work, and baking.

On November 22, 2017, she was diagnosed with Lymphoma.  She fought a short but courageous battle never once complaining or wanting to worry others.  On November 22, 2018, just one year after being diagnosed, she gained her angel wings.

She is survived by her son, Tracey Heaton, Spearfish, SD; daughters, Charity Littleton, Sturgis SD, and Christina (George) Cox, Whitewood, SD; and special friend and caregiver to whom she considered a daughter, Desarae Love; grandchildren, Mavrick Heaton, Montana (Shane) Wagner, Jordan (Jade Neeman) Edwards, Jake Edwards, Chaylynn Heaton, Bailey (Ryan) Richards, Kody Cox, Mackenzie Littleton, and Morgan Littleton; great-grandchildren, Angelina, Braxton, Brynleigh, and Rylee Richards, and Payton Wagner; brother, Fritz Hughes; sisters, Connie Clark, Peggy (Ronald) Schaefer, and Sheila Schiesser; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by both parents; infant sister, Ruth Hughes; sister-in-law, Verla Hughes; nephew, Brian Hughes; daughter-in-law, Amanda Heaton; and great-grandson, Reece Richards.

Visitation will be Friday, November 30, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday prior to the service at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. December 1, 2018, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.  Burial will follow at Whitewood Cemetery.Condolences may be sent to the family at www.kinkadefunerals.com.
