Meade 46-1 following Governor’s recommendation to close next week

STURGIS, S.D. – Governor Kristi Noem today requested all school district within the state to keep students out of the classroom next week and use the time to sanitize and clean in response to the COVID-19 cases reported within the state.

In a release today, the Meade 46-1 School District sent out a release stating the would follow the Governor’s request.

The statement read as follows:

The Meade 46-1 school district will be closed next week in response to the Governors recommendation as a response the COVID 19 virus.  We will use that time to do a deep clean and sanitize.  The school administration and teachers have prepared instruction to be done virtually for our 5-12 students with their apple devices.  Please help monitor the use of the Apple devices and make sure that when students come back to school, they bring the charger that came with the device.  Our k-5 students will have work sent home with them.

The information on the COVID-19 virus changes hourly.  One thing that continues to be a theme is elderly and those with a compromised immune system are the most susceptible to the virus.

All activities and practices have been cancelled.  The library and the community center will be closed.

The district says more information would be released next week, but the hope was to have students return Monday, March 23rd after the deep clean.
