Meade County to have sobriety checkpoints

News Staff - May 4, 2018

PIERRE, SD   - As the weather warms up, more people are out on roads and highways.  That may lead to increased drinking and driving. The South Dakota Department of Public Safety has scheduled 28 sobriety checkpoints in 23 counties.

According to a release, the checkpoints are funded by the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety and conducted by the South Dakota Highway Patrol. Traffic stops are designed to discourage people from drinking and driving.

Meade County is among those counties scheduled for checkpoints.  Others include Brookings, Brown, Brule, Butte, Charles Mix, Codington, Custer, Hamlin, Hughes, Jackson, Kingsbury, Lake, Lawrence, Lincoln, Minnehaha, Pennington, Roberts, Spink, Stanley, Walworth, Union, and Yankton
