Monday COVID-19 cases rise 65, Pennington County reports 19 new

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota’s Department of Health reported 65 new cases of COVID-19 Monday, with 19 of them coming out of Pennington County.

The new cases in Pennington County sent the cumulative total to 845 and the active caseload is now 126, up 14 from Sunday.

Along with Minnehaha and Lincoln counties, Pennington County is listed as one of the top 3 counties seeing cases from the outbreak at Camp Judson.

State epidemiologist Dr. Joshua Clayton says out of 258 South Dakota residents and 43 people from out of state reported to have attended the camp in some way, 93 cases of COVID-19 have been seen. Of those, 44 have recovered.

Dr. Clayton says the good news is, there have been no hospitalizations among the 93 people as of yet.

Other new cases around the Black Hills area today include 2 new cases in both Meade and Lawrence counties. Meade has a total of 76 with 15 active cases and Lawrence  County has 32 total with 7 active. Active cases in both counties are up two from Sunday.

Oglala Lakota County reported one new case today, giving them a total of 149 with 24 currently active.

The statewide active case total is up 35 today to 946. The number of people hospitalized statewide is up 4 to 39.

No new deaths were reported today.
