STURGIS, S.D. – The Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club will hold an informational forum Saturday night at the Sidehack Saloon regarding next week’s election concerning the city’s annexation of its club grounds. The forum will be held at 6:30 p.m.
The Sidehack is located at 1027 Lazelle Street. The event is sponsored by the Libertarian Party of South Dakota as well as the Jackpine Gypsies.
The forum will present information to local residents as to why the group opposes the involuntary annexation of 47 acres adjacent to the city into the City of Sturgis.
Collin Duprel, area Libertarian Party official said, “This will be a place of civil discussion and common sense information presentation. However, local politicians and representatives are still highly encouraged to attend.”
The Jackpine Gypsies successfully circulated petitions to bring the Sturgis City Council’s June action to annex the property to a public vote.
A vote “yes” means the property will be annexed. A vote “no” means the property will not be annexed. This election does NOT limit racing at the facility.
On-site voting takes place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. this Tuesday, Aug. 4 at the Sturgis Community Center.
Absentee voting is also available at the Sturgis City Hall until Monday, Aug. 3. Voter identification is required.
