National Park Service okays Mount Rushmore fireworks

WASHINGTON – The National Park Service has made it official – the fireworks at Mount Rushmore National Memorial have been approved.

The National Park Service on Tuesday announced the return of the Fourth of July celebration fireworks after an 11 year hiatus due to fire, environmental and other concerns.

The celebration is still contingent on several factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic, fire danger and weather.

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem had asked President Trump to bring back the fireworks.

The N.P.S. will work with other agencies, including the state of South Dakota, to develop celebration plans.

A specific date and event schedule have not been determined at this time.
