New COVID-19 cases number 783 in Monday report

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health reported a lower number of COVID-19 cases Monday as 783 new cases were reported.

Active cases rose by 453 to 17,350 and hospitalizations saw a slight uptick to 582.

In today’s hospital report, 47.5-percent of the state’s I.C.U. beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients. Available beds are at 18.9-percent statewide Monday. The percentage of available I.C.U. beds across the Black Hills healthcare system is a bit lower at 11.8-percent.

No new deaths were reported today, keeping the state’s death toll at 819.

New cases across West River totaled 203. Pennington County had 79 of those, sending their total to 7,843 with 1,847 active cases.

Lawrence County had 32 new cases for a total of 1,834 and 382 remain active.

In Meade County, there were 19 new cases Monday, sending the total to 1,589 with 335 active.

And, Butte County added 9 new cases for a total of 659 and 101 remain active.

Other new cases around the West River area included 12 each in Tripp and Todd, 9 Oglala Lakota, 7 in Perkins, 6 in Mellette, 5 in Lyman, 4 in Gregory, 2 each in Harding and Stanley and one each in Fall River, Jones and Bennett.

There were 2,079 new persons tested reported on Monday. The new person test positivity-rate is 37%.
