New challenge introduced to get Sturgis residents to shop local

STURGIS, S.D. -The City of Sturgis wants residents to shop local, and they’re setting up a new challenge in hopes of getting them to do just that.

The “90% Challenge” is designed to not only benefit local businesses but bring the community together.

City leaders are hoping to encourage people to shop Sturgis for 90-percent of their holiday gifts or spend 90-percent of their shopping budget a local businesses.

The main goal is to show support for the local entrepreneurs in the area and to give the local businesses a chance to show local residents what they have to offer.

The creator of the project, Richelle Bruch, came up with the idea in October and felt that the best time to launch the project was during the holiday season.

Bruch is encouraging the community to join in on the fun by posting to social media with the #90percentchallenge.

More information on the challenge can be found on the City of Sturgis Facebook Page.
