Noem encourages use of app to trace COVID-19 infections

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Gov. Kristi Noem is encouraging people to use a mobile app that can trace the steps of people who test positive for the virus.

The Care19 app was created in North Dakota by a Microsoft engineer. North Dakota rolled it out this week as a way to trace the spread of the coronavirus.

Noem says use of the app is voluntary. It also has privacy measures in place, like the ability to delete your data at any time.

Health officials report 54 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus, bringing the state’s total to 447.

Officials reported no new deaths from COVID-19, but six people have died so far.
