Union Pacific Train Crash in Wyoming

One dead in Union Pacific train crash in Wyoming

The Associated Press - October 5, 2018

CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Authorities say a Union Pacific freight train crashed into the back of another freight train in southeastern Wyoming, killing at least one crew member. Two others were slightly injured and a fourth crew member was missing after more than 50 train cars derailed

Lt. Don Hollingshead of the Laramie County Sheriff's Office tells KGAB-AM the crash was reported around 7:45 p.m. Thursday in a sparsely populated area about 18 miles (29 kilometers) west of Cheyenne.

He says no hazardous materials were involved and there were no threats to the public.

Hollingshead says both trains were eastbound but one was stopped. He says 56 train cars derailed.

Union Pacific spokeswoman Raquel Espinoza did not immediately return a telephone message left Friday seeking comment.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
