Pennington County has additional 27 COVID-19 cases according to Friday report

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health reported 106 positive tests for COVID-19 in its Friday report.

Two new deaths were also reported, sending the state’s death toll to 50. Both deaths were listed as woman 80+ years old and in Minnehaha County, which has accounted for 43 of the state’s total deaths.

Pennington County saw the state’s highest amount of cases over the past 24 hours as the health department reported 27 new positive tests. That brings the county’s cumulative total to 127 with 101 active cases.

Beadle County also saw another uptick in cases, reporting 19 new positive tests. State Epidemiologist Joshua Clayton today says they are getting some positive cases from the Jack Links factory there…

Other cases today include 16 each in Bon Homme and Minnehaha, 7 in Lincoln, 5 in Codington, 4 each in Jerauld and Union, 2 each in Buffalo and Roberts and one each in Charles Mix, Oglala Lakota, Sanborn, Tripp and Yankton counties.

Despite the triple-digit increase in new cases, recoveries once again outpaced the number of positive tests as the active caseload in the state decreased to 1,039. That is 18 lower than Thursday.

The number of people hospitalized also decreased, going from 91 Thursday to 83 today.

Total recoveries are at 3,267, 122 more than Thursday.

In Meade County, there were no new cases today, so active cases remain at 2. There are 14 active cases in Oglala Lakota County.

Pennington County has 2,104 negative tests, Meade County has 508, Lawrence County has 396 and Butte County has 145.
