Road Rage Incident

Police arrest man for allegedly pointing a firearm at another person in road rage incident

News Staff - July 9, 2019

RAPID CITY, S.D. - Rapid City police responded to a road rage incident involving a firearm Monday afternoon.

Police say the victim reported a man pulled up next to their vehicle after exiting a one lane construction zone on I-90, then allegedly pointed a gun at them.

Rapid City Police Department spokesperson, Brendyn Medina says police followed up on the report, searching for the driver. He says they were able to locate the suspect vehicle and police conducted what he called a “high risk” traffic stop. That meant police ordered the driver out of the pickup and he was detained.

A search of the vehicle turned up a pistol in the center console.

The driver, identified as 63-year-old Bobby Moser of Rapid City, was placed under arrest for aggravated assault. He was taken to the Pennington County jail.

On July first, a law went into effect in South Dakota allowing people to legally carry a firearm without a permit.

Medina says he doesn’t know if the man had a concealed carry permit because the new legislation means he doesn’t need one.

Medina does not believe this law will increase the number of firearm incidents in Rapid City.
