Police arrest suspect after brief standoff in Rapid City Friday morning

RAPID CITY. S.D. — The Rapid City Police Department has safely taken an 18-year-old suspect into custody after a brief standoff.

According to tweets from the RCPD, the male suspect threatened others with a gun, firing one shot before running into an apartment in the area of Canyon Lake Drive and Monte Vista Drive.

Officers evacuated the apartment complex and called in the Special Response Team. The suspect, identified as Robert Aguiniga, 18, of Rapid City, was detained without incident.

Portions of Canyon Lake Drive were shut down while authorities worked to clear the scene.
