Police in Rapid City investigating two robberies within 24 hours of each other

News Staff - November 23, 2020

RAPID CITY, S.D. - Police in Rapid City are investigating a Monday morning hold up at North Street Subway restaurant.

Police say the robber entered the establishment with a handgun and demanded money from the store's cash register.

Police say the employee complied.

The suspect took off with an undetermined amount of cash and was last seen fleeing the business to the northwest.

He was described as a male with a short, slim build and wearing a purple sweatshirt, acid-washed jeans, sunglasses and black gloves.

This holdup follows another armed robbery of a casino on the 4000 block of Cheyenne Boulevard Sunday morning.

Police say at around 10:50 a.m., they were dispatched to the casino for a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred.

Officers arrived and made contact with the employee of the business who had been injured in the incident. A medical unit arrived at the location and subsequently transported the employee to the hospital for the treatment of her non-life-threatening injuries.

After speaking to the employee, police learned that an unknown male had entered the casino with a handgun, grabbed the employee, and took her back to the location of the casino’s register to demand money. During the course of the interaction, he assaulted the clerk. He was unable to gain access to the register, however, he did take some property belonging to the employee before fleeing the casino.

The suspect is described as a male in his later 20s to early 30s, wearing a pink or purple hooded sweatshirt, grey mask, and dark colored pants. He is seen exiting a light-colored late-2000s body style Mercury Milan with damage to the front bumper.

It's not known if the two robberies are connected.

Anyone who has information regarding either robbery can contact Rapid City Police.
