Power outage Thursday affects 1400 customers in southeast Rapid City

RAPID CITY, SD-  On Thursday at 12:55 pm, Black Hills Energy restored power to customers that experienced a power outage in the southeast area of Rapid City.

The outage occurred around 10:00 am impacting 1,423 customers. 

The cause of the power outage was an electrical fault while performing maintenance at a substation located in southeast of Rapid City.

The Black Hills Energy employees working in the area were wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment and were not injured.

“The safety of our employees and public are our top priority,” said Marc Eyre, vice president of electric operations in South Dakota. “We are happy our employees did not receive any injuries and worked quickly to restore service to customers impacted by the outage.”
