President Trump plans to be at Mount Rushmore July 3 for fireworks show

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Senator Mike Rounds tweeted Friday that President Donald Trump has indicated he will indeed be in South Dakota over the Fourth of July holiday to see the fireworks show at Mount Rushmore.

Rounds today tweeted:

“BREAKING NEWS: President Trump will be coming to South Dakota for the 4th of July fireworks celebration at Mount Rushmore! I look forward to welcoming the President to our great state!”

The President himself today told a podcast today that he would attend the show, scheduled for July 3rd.

The National Park Service this week gave the okay for the show to return after an 11 year hiatus mainly due to fire and environmental concerns.

The show actually happening is still contingent on those factors, as well as weather conditions and the current COVID-19 situation.

On the podcast, Trump mentioned a conversation with Gov. Kristi Noem about federal funding for state budgets. He then turned the conversation towards fireworks at Mount Rushmore.

During the podcast Trump says, “For 20 years or something, it hasn’t been allowed for environmental reasons. ‘Do you believe that one?’ It’s all stone,” Trump said on the podcast. “I got it approved and I’m going to go there on July 3rd and there going to have the big fireworks.”

President Trump has never visited the Black Hills area. His last visit came in 2018 when he visited Sioux Falls to stump for Kristi Noem, who was running for governor at the time.
