Prestigious high school competition part of Rodeo Rapid City

News Staff - January 14, 2020

RAPID CITY, SD - An Xtreme Showcase of South Dakota’s finest high school cowboys and cowgirls will be competing in the Barnett Arena of the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center during  Rodeo Rapid City’s 20X Showcase, Sunday, Feb. 2 at 1:00 pm.

The top three cowboys and cowgirls from each region in each event, based on points after State Finals, are invited to compete in this exclusive rodeo event. According to Steve Sutton, the 20X is  an opportunity to see some of the best young rodeo talent South Dakota has to offer, matched up against top stock, competing in a professional venue.

The 20X Extreme College Fair – open to all high school rodeo competitors -  will be held the same day from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the south balcony of the Barnett Arena.  National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association rodeo coaches from across the country will be on hand with information on rodeo programs available in post-secondary education settings. Glen Lammers, who has won four Great Plains Region titles between the men’s and women’s rodeo teams in his time as coach at Black HillsState University, says it’s a popular place to find talent.

Rodeo action includes top PRCA contract personnel and acts including announcer Will Rasmussen and PRCA Clown of the Year, Keith Isley.  The award winning Young Living Percheron Hitch will also make an appearance.

The state’s top high school athletes compete for scholarships, team travel funds from Farm Credit Services and the prized Maynard Trophy Buckles.
