STURGIS, S.D. – Severe thunderstorms moved across western South Dakota Saturday bringing hail, wind, heavy rain and flooding.
Flash flooding was reported in parts of eastern Meade County, where water was over the road south of White Owl. Water was also running over Elm Springs Road between the Belle Fourche River and Elm Springs. Rainfall amounts between 2 and 3 inches were reported.
The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning four southern Haakon County Saturday night. At 856 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated up to two inches of rain had fallen, and additional rainfall is expected. Flash flooding was likely ongoing along Indian Creek and the Bad River between Philip and Midland is expected to raise 5 to 10 feet overnight.
Some hail reports Saturday included 1.50-inch hail in Summerset and one inch hail was reported west of Hill City. In Haakon County, hail covered a 3-mile stretch of Highway 73.
