Rapid City Area Schools planning graduation ceremonies amid COVID-19

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Area School District has yet to confirm a virtual graduation date, but are hoping to be able to hold an in person ceremony in July.

Dr. Lori Simon, Superintendent of RCAS says an in person graduation ceremony is tentatively planned for Rapid City High School on July 24 and July 26 for Rapid City Central and Stevens High Schools.

The virtual graduation is expected to be held the end of May or early June. Dr. Simon says they will try to incorporate most of the traditional ceremony elements.

Douglas High School is also planning an in person, traditional ceremony on July 26 at Patriot Stadium in Box Elder.

They are additionally holding a video graduation and senior slideshow ceremony event at Roy’s Black Hills Twin Drive IN Theatre on May 17 with components of a traditional graduation ceremony, which will be pre-produced.
