Gary Matthews - January 12, 2018

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City Central used a late game push from Cameron Hall and Kaileb Walton Blanden to get past Sturgis and remain undefeated Thursday night.

Sturgis got off a quick start on the Cobblers, taking a 19-13 lead after the first quarter.

Central settled down in the second quarter, and outscored Sturgis 18-8 to take a 31-27 lead.

Sturgis would close to within four in the fourth quarter, but Hall would knock down some big 3-pointers, and Walton-Blanden added a couple of slam dunks as the Cobblers pulled away to win 69-52.

Walton-Blanden led the Cobblers in scoring with 25 and Dylan Hay added 18 points.

Sturgis was led by Dawson Gueke’s 26 points.

Ryan Garland did not play for Sturgis due to illness.

Meanwhile, the Scooper girls hung close to Central all night, but came up short in a 45-40 defeat.

Central led 18-7 at the end of one, but Sturgis clamped down in the second, and outscored the Cobblers 18-6 to take a 25-24 lead at halftime.

The two teams continued to battle in the second half, and Central was able to hang to get the victory.

Bailey Johnson and Whitley Heitsch each scored 13 to pace the Cobblers.

Brook Janz led Sturgis with 14.
