Rapid City Council approves Sixth Street Study

Gary Matthews - December 3, 2019

RAPID CITY, S.D. – After tabling the issue in October, the Rapid City Council on Monday night voted 7-2 to begin a study of how to improve the Sixth Street crosswalk where it crosses Omaha Street.

The council split 5-5 in October on spending $125,000 on the study, but after more information was presented Monday night, the council approved the study.

The city will now only spend about $23,000 with a federal grant taking care of the rest.

The study will look for solutions for the Sixth Street Crosswalk, which leads to Memorial Park.

The study will also focus on Sixth Street as a whole, and look for ways to improve pedestrian accessibility and travel, especially with the building of a new arena at the Civic Center.
