Rapid City Council sets date for Modrick disciplinary hearing

RAPID CITY, S.D. – After a lengthy executive session Tuesday night, the Rapid City Council set a March hearing date to discuss possible disciplinary action against Lisa Modrick.

The hearing was set for 1:30 p.m. on March 10th.

Ward One council person Modrick is an official with West Jet, a tenant at Regional Airport. She reported what she claimed was an abusive interaction with the airport board president Darren Haar. That claim triggered a law enforcement investigation.

Rapid City Mayor Steve Allender says Haar recorded the meeting without Modrick’s knowledge, and he says a review of the tape doesn’t indicate any abusive content.

After hearing from Modrick during Tuesday night’s executive session, the council agreed a public disciplinary hearing is needed.

Allender said there have been council members being accused of what he called “wrongdoings” in the past, there has been nothing to this extent.

“The council has a duty and obligation to take this matter into their jurisdiction and come out with some resolution that doesn’t mean a single one of them are enjoying it or looking forward to it,” Mayor Allender said.

A super majority vote, which means seven out of the nine remaining aldermen, would need to agree in order to impose any kind of sanction against Modrick.
