Rapid City Police looking for driver of car that caused crash; killing infant

Gary Matthews - October 8, 2018

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Authorities in Rapid City a three-car crash that sent three people to the hospital Friday has now resulted in a death.

Rapid City Police a one-year-old infant has died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Police say the incident happened when a Pontiac Grand Prix attempted a left turn onto East New York Street from northbound East Boulevard. A Pontiac Bonneville traveling southbound on East Boulevard struck the Grand Prix and a third vehicle.

Two adult occupants and an infant in the Grand Prix were taken to the hospital with what were reported as life-threatening injuries. The infant died over the weekend.

Police say they are still looking for the person driving the Bonneville, who fled the scene after the crash.

Police did arrest an individual who they thought may have been the driver, but further investigation determined he wasn’t in the area at the time of the crash. The man, identified as 33-year-old Joseph Morado, was highly intoxicated and had meth on him when apprehended underneath the East Boulevard bridge. Although Morado told police he was involved in the crash, they say his ankle monitor’s GPS history doesn’t support that.

Police say anyone with information is encouraged to contact them. They can also text an anonymous tip to 847411.
