Richard Owen Gorman

- January 29, 2019

Richard “Rick” Owen Gorman was born December 27, 1951, to Owen and Joan (Hurley) Gorman in Sturgis, SD.  He graduated from Sturgis Brown High School in 1970.

Upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in San Diego, CA.  After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to Sturgis and went to work for the SD Department of Transportation as a surveyor.

Rick married Sinnet (Tennis) and together they had three children, Cherise, and twins, Andy and Jessie.  His children were the loves of his life.

In 1981, Rick purchased the Fireside Lounge.  He enjoyed its operation for the next 15 years.   Many lasting memories and friendships were made along the way.  This was especially true during the Sturgis Rally.

Rick married Pam (Mundt) on December 19, 1998.  Together, they enjoyed 20 years of camping, fishing, traveling, and buying and selling antiques.  He often referred to her as his angel on earth.

Rick's unconditional love was BIG for his family, as was his love for a good steak and his beloved Broncos.  He never missed an opportunity to say I love you.  He was an amazingly wonderful father, husband, grandpa, and brother.  He was our Pops.  He was a friend to many and was known for his kind, compassionate, and generous spirit.

Rick passed away peacefully at the age of 67 on January 27, 2019.  He was surrounded by love from family and friends and welcomed home by his son, Andy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pam; his daughters, Cherise Gorman and Jessie (Rod) McMasters; his daughter-in-law, Amy; two step-sons, Jeff (Sandy) Norris, and Corey (Trina) Norris; his beloved grandchildren, Kelsey, Kaylee, Hannah, Morgan, Emma, Sam, Kenzie, Rylea, Keaton, Taylor, and Tanner; his brothers, Mike (Judy) Gorman and Tim (Kristi) Hedman; his sister, Judy (Bob) Parsons; sisters-in- law, Paula (Richard) Tresslar, and Becky (Kim) Eining; dear friends, Sinnet and Leo Bestgen; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Rick was preceded in death by his son, Andy Gorman, and his parents, Owen and Joan Gorman.

A memorial fund has been established for the VA Hospice of the Black Hills at Ft. Meade, SD.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a vigil at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2019, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis with Father Timothy Castor officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.kinkadefunerals.com.
