Runners crowned at State Cross Country Meet

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Sioux Falls Lincoln captured both girls and boys team titles at the Class AA State Cross Country meet Saturday.

The Lincoln boys finished 22 points -- well ahead of second place finisher Rapid City Stevens with 103. Aberdeen Central came in third, Sioux Falls Roosevelt fourth and Brandon Valley rounded out the top five. Sturgis finished in ninth.

The Lincoln girls captured the team title with 68 points. Rapid City Central placed second with an 84. Brandon Valley was third, Sioux Falls O'Gorman was fourth and Sioux Falls Washington rounded out the top five. Stevens finished in sixth and Sturgis placed 11th.

Winning the boys individual race was Aaron Ryan of Aberdeen Central in a time of 15:31.73. Runners from Sioux Falls Lincoln captured the next three places. Jackson Wilson of Douglas was the top placing West River athlete in fifth. Nate Andersen was the top finishing Scooper in 25th.

Winning the girls race was Analise Levesque of Lincoln in a time of 18:11.97. Ellie Abraham of Brookings was second. Kylee Bennett of Sturgis was the top placing West River athlete, finishing in fourth with a time of 18:41.06. Bryanna Kuhn of Stevens finished just behind Bennett in fifth and Alissa Wiemann of Douglas was sixth.

At the Class A Meet, the Custer boys won the team title with Vermillion second and St Thomas More third. The Custer girls also won the team title with 50 points, and Hill City edged Chamberlain for second. St Thomas More finished in fourth.

Winning the boys race was Alec Atwood of Beresford in a time of 16:07.84. Braden Peters of West Central was second. Custer's Nathanial Youngblood was the highest placing West River athlete in fourth. Jarek Glen of St Thomas More was fifth and Youngblood's teammate Jace Oesterling was sixth. Sawyer Clarkson of Belle Fourche came in seventh.

Winning the girls race was Ella Byers of Chamberlain in a time of 18:22.78. Ali Bainbridge of Lennox was second and Karlee Simmons of Hill City was third. Jade Ecoffey of Red Cloud finished in seventh and Custer's Sierra Oesterling came in eighth.

And at the Class B Meet, James Valley Christian captured the boys title with Warner in second and Newell in third. Deubrook Area won the girls team title with Ipswich second and Newell third.

Winning the boys individual race was Cody Larson of Warner in a time of 16:32.14. Bison's Jonathan Burkhalter finished in fourth and Timber Lake's Beau DuBray finished in seventh.

Winning the girls individual race was Jolie Dugan of Jones County in a time of 19:12.63. Isabella Brouwer of Andes Central was second. Top placing West River athlete was Newell's Lexa Burtzlaff in 15th.
