Saturday Update – State reports ten additional COVID-19 cases, tests are caught up

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health reported ten additional positive tests for COVID-19 in their Saturday report.

The new cases raise the statewide total to 68 so far. With that, they remind residents that since the first case of COVID-19 was reported, 26 people have fully recovered, leaving 46 people still recovering. There has been one death in South Dakota.

The new cases overnight were in eastern South Dakota. Numbers remained stable in western South Dakota, where there are 3 in Pennington County, Meade County remained at one and  Lawrence County remained at 2.

A majority of the cases reported overnight where in Minnehaha County, where there are now a state-leading 21 positive tests.

Beadle County remained steady at 16 cases.

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem says South Dakotans are doing a good job of following CDC guidelines and social distancing, but it must continue.

As of today, there have been 2,592 negative tests and the state has officially caught up on backlogged tests. They have no pending tests – which means healthcare providers and the state lab are able to test as needed now.
