Scooper boys and girls get wins over Lead-Deadwood

STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Scooper girls basketball team handed the Lead-Deadwood Golddiggers their first loss of the season with a 34-29 victory Saturday.

Sturgis used a 12-5 run in the second quarter to pull ahead 17-12 at halftime. The Golddiggers would hang right with the Scoopers in the second half, but the Scoopers would hold off a later rally to get the five point win.

Sarah Janz led Sturgis with 13 points while Kylie Shaw added 11.

Sydney Shaw left the game in the first half after suffering a knee injury.

Anna Campbell led Lead-Deadwood with 12 points and 8 rebounds.

In the boys game, Sturgis would erase a first half deficit and run away from the Golddiggers in a 72-55 victory.

Sturgis opened things up in the third quarter, spreading the floor and picking up the pace, holding the Golddiggers to just 8 points while they scored 20 to take a ten point lead.

The Sccopers would add to it in the fourth, outscoring Lead-Deadwood 18 to 11.

Marcus Myrick had a big game for Sturgis, scoring 30 points with five three-pointers. Myrick also pulled down nine rebounds and added four blocks.

Zach Shoun chipped in 15 points for the Scoopers.

Lead-Deadwood was led by Jordy Stulken’s 18 points.
