Scooper boys and girls open season with wins

BOX ELDER, S.D. - The Sturgis Scooper boys and girls basketball teams opened the season with victories over Douglas Friday night.

In the girls' game, Loralee Stock led the Scooper charge, scoring 18 points en-route to a 56-45 victory.

Sturgis jumped out to a 19-6 lead after the first quarter and maintained the lead throughout the game.

Sarah Janz added 12 points for the Scoopers and Olivia Jolley chipped in 9.

Jordynn Toliver led the Douglas charge with 18 points.

In the boys contest, Douglas played the Scoopers tough in the first half -- it was two point lead for Sturgis at the half. But the Scoopers picked up play in the second half, outscoring Douglas 221-12 in the third quarter to pull away for a 58-45 win.

Ryan Garland led Sturgis with 18 points with Marcus Myrick and Cedrick Stabber each scoring 10. Garland hit four three-pointers with Stabber adding one.

Ryan Tompkins led Douglas with 17 points.
