Scooper boys and girls split with Belle Fourche Tuesday night

Gary Matthews and Terry Anderson - December 11, 2018

STURGIS, S.D. - The Sturgis Scooper boys saw Belle Fourche go on a 9-0 run to start the second quarter. That 19-18 lead for the Broncs was short lived, however, and after a timeout, Sturgis ran away to an 81-45 victory in Tuesday night basketball.

Sturgis jumped out a quick 18-10 lead, only to see the Broncs come right back and take a one point lead. But after that, the Scoopers outscored Belle Fourche 24-11 in the second quarter to take a 42-21 lead.

The Scoopers continued their dominance in the second half, and had the game well in hand after three -- leading 63-30.

Ryan Garland led all scorers with 21 points.. Gavin West added 15. The Scoopers shot a blistering 47-percent from the floor.

Belle Fourche was led by Colby Nowowiejski and Kelby Olson, each with 10.

The Scooper girls, in the meantime, watched a seven point in the fourth quarter evaporate, and Belle Fourche hit their free throws down the stretch to win 51-48.

Belle Fourche made 25 of 29 free throw attempts, while Sturgis only shot 12 of 26.

Rylee Young led the scoring charge for Belle Fourche with 16 points -- with 10 of those coming from the free throw line.

Loralee Stock led Sturgis with 21 points in an impressive effort. Cassidy Jorensen chipped in 13 for the Scoopers.
