Scoopers roll in wrestling opener over Belle Fourche

STURGIS, S.D. - The Sturgis Scooper Wrestling team opened up the 2019-2020 wrestling season with a 70-12 dual victory over Belle Fourche.

After a forfeit win by Korbin Olson at 106 pounds, the Scoopers opened with three quick wins at 113, 120 and 126 pounds. Evan Osborn defeated Lane Longbrake at 113, Kaden Olson defeated Colton Shelley at 120 and Logan DeSersa beat Hunter Quenzer at 126.

Thomas McCoy got Belle Fourche on the board with a win over Traylin Martin at 132.

Sturgis would then win the next eight matches.

At 138, Perry Kettelsen got Sturgis back on a win streak with a victory over Andy Tonsager.

At 145, Paul Pulling defeated Isaac McKenney and at 152, Brett Konst opened the season with a a win over Gunner Geib.

Wren Jacobs won at 160 pounds with a :17 second win over Cade Bickerdyke. At 170, Reese Jacobs defeated Sean Wahlfeldt and at 182, Taylor Coffield defeated Levi Melanson in a fall at 1:42.

Robert Merwin won at 195 due to forfeit and Clayton Smith won at the 220 pound match with a hard fought win over Aiken Crowley in 3:28.

Belle Fourche rounded out the matched with a win at 285 as Michael Streeter defeated Cody Nelson in 2:49.

The Scoopers now head to Mandan this weekend for the Lion's Club Invitational.
